Globorotalia ungulata
Life: G. ungula is a non-spinose deeper dwelling planktic foraminifera. This species is common in warm (tropical and subtropical) waters of the modern ocean. Distinguishing features: G. ungulata has a low trochospiral shell with 5 chambers in the final whorl. This species looks similar to G. menardii, but it has a thickening (a keel band) on the crest the final chamber. The crest is readily identifiable in the scan for Specimen 1, where the keel band can be seen as a thickening on the crest of the final chamber. More information: mikrotax; foraminifera.eu |
